How to keep your workforce healthy! Keyboards dirtier that a loo seat
Shockingly, some computer keyboards shelter more harmful bacteria than a toilet seat, research published by Which? this month suggests.
Samples from a selection of keyboards found a variety of bugs including E-Coli. A loo seat in a typical London office was also swabbed and one particular keyboard was found to be 5 times dirtier.
The main culprit for the contamination was people eating at their desks and dropping crumbs between the keys. This debris encourages the growth of millions of bacteria.
Top tips for a keyboard spring clean
1. Dust and crumbs should be shaken out of your keyboard
2. Keyboards should be wiped with a soft, lightly dampened cloth
3. They should also be disinfected with alcohol wipes
However some working environments such as hospitals and multi-user work stations, such as call centres, need extra help.
