Undiagnosed Dyslexia

Dyslexia is widely being recognised as undiagnosed. Read our article about the lack of understanding on this common condition and find out how Keytools can help.

There are over two million undiagnosed dyslexic adults in Britain today
Only 6% of adults claim to be aware they had the reading and writing condition, well below the accepted national average of 10%.

The British Dyslexia Association (BDA), amongst other recognised institutes, recognises that up to 10% of Britons are dyslexic, and interestingly the research showed that a much larger percentage of younger respondents than older accepted they were dyslexic.

Although this clearly indicates that methods of catching the disability at an early age have improved dramatically over the years, it also highlights a staggering percentage of the population that still struggle with dyslexia into their forties, fifties, sixties and well into retirement.

Worryingly the report, commissioned by The Learning People, shows a lack of understanding about dyslexia as well as a very slanted view of how people see dyslexics in modern society.

Three quarters admitted to knowing little about the disability, a fifth saying people with dyslexia just need to work harder and a quarter believing dyslexics are less able in the workplace, a sad indictment on British working practices.

The Learning People, a national network of Davis Dyslexia Correction Programme facilitators, is today launching an appeal for this 'lost generation' to seek advice from professionals if they think they may have dyslexia.
