New Service to help the blind and partially sighted
A pilot programme developed in conjunction with The Wilberforce Trust Charity and the RNIB has been launched to help people with sight problems.
The new service will provide a single point of contact for the people of York whose sight problems cannot be corrected by conventional glasses, contact lenses or medical help. It will also help people suffering from diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration and cataracts.
The groundbreaking service will offer patients the opportunity to speak to optometrists and specialist health professionals, and gain advice on aids available from the York Blind and Partially Sighted Society.
It is estimated that around two million people nationwide are living with sight loss, and every day another 100 people start to lose their sight.
