What is RSIGuard

RSIGuard can help to reduce strain at the computer by offering meaningful breaks tailored to your personal needs, keeping you conscious of your computing behaviour and keeping track of your progress.

BreakTimer
RSIGuard’s BreakTimer is by far the most sophisticated break timer available. BreakTimer continually analyses the users’ intensity, quality and quantity of work as well as natural rest, and then suggests breaks at appropriate times. BreakTimer adapts to user feedback and long-term trends of user behaviour so that each program is set to meet individual requirements. During breaks, RSIGuard with Stretch Break technology demonstrates stretches via full-motion animations.

BreakTimer is easy to use and boasts a range of settings that can be tailored to meet individual needs in the prevention and management of RSI. During initial setup, users input their current computer usage behaviour, their level of willpower to take breaks, any current work restrictions and other relevant health information.

In addition to timing breaks when they’re required, BreakTimer minimises disruption by starting breaks when a user is naturally pausing. A ‘Postpone Break’ feature allows users to finish work before beginning a break and an ‘I’m in Pain’ button adjusts BreakTimer to prevent further discomfort. The user is always in control and so the end result is a BreakTimer tailored to the needs and demands of each of your employees.

AutoClick
AutoClick eliminates the need to do two of the most damaging computer activities – grasping and clicking the mouse. AutoClick’s automatic-clicking option simulates a mouse click whenever you stop using the mouse. Users quickly become adjusted to this tool and the benefits are immense. Many people with significant injuries are actually able to return to useful computer work with this feature. AutoClick also significantly reduces the likelihood of developing an injury.

In addition, KeyControl provides user-assignable hotkeys on the keyboard that allows users to perform mouse operations, open files or applications, type common text, or perform other repetitive tasks with a single key press.

Further customisation allows users to define special actions for AutoClick in RSIGuard various programs or contexts and to prevent unintended clicks by advising it of situations in which it should not click, for example over the Delete button.

ForgetMeNots
The ForgetMeNots feature offers two important tools for preventing injuries – microbreaks and reminders.

ForgetMeNot microbreaks are 15 second breaks that give users just enough time to breathe, relax their muscles, and continue working with minimal disruption.

Reminders are messages that pop up on the screen to help the user stay conscious of work habits. The messages include preset RSIGuard ergonomic messages, custom messages that can also be added to suit individual needs and RSIGuard temporary messages when the software detects certain unhealthy work patterns.

DataLogger
RSIGuard collects extensive information about the way a user is working through automatic observations and survey methods. RSIGuard then uses the information to adjust the BreakTimer and to add messages to ForgetMeNots in order to personalise user settings. The separate RSIGuard Reports utility allows a user to view the data and correlate it to survey data, enabling users to monitor their working patterns.

DataLogger automatically records information such as quantity, length, and intensity of work on the mouse, the keyboard, and the two combined. Unlike other data collection systems, RSIGuard actually considers the relative strain of different computer activities and also accounts for work intensity, logging, for example, how quickly and how hard keys are pressed. The software records how many breaks are taken and how many are skipped as well as it measuring the length of time spent in breaks and resistance to breaks (postponement time), providing a truly personal analysis.

DataLogger can also compile Health Status Reports allowing users to confidentially submit reports about their health, at your organisation’s discretion reports can then be automatically filed over the internet to your occupational health manager to assist your organisation in tracking employee health. The reports can be useful in monitoring individual changes, for example in workload or level of pain, or collectively observing staff computing health. These reports can also be superimposed over automatically recorded information to provide powerful cause and effect insights.

Online Training
RSIGuard provides basic ergonomic training on topics like hand and wrist position, posture, workstation setup, and keyboard shortcuts. In addition, RSIGuard provides help through frequently updated documentation available online.

Other Features
RSIGuard has various other features that make it the most powerful RSI management software available:

  • RSIGuard supports multiple users and stores information about each user's usage, behaviour and configuration preferences.
  • New users can use the Setup Wizard to learn about RSIGuard and tailor it to their needs.
  • RSIGuard, when used with the 'RSIGuard Reports' program, allows you to print reports of your computer usage stored by the DataLogger component (see above).
  • The main display has useful display options like the ability to continuously view mouse and keyboard stress levels, time-at-work statistics, an optional compact display mode that automatically expands when you move the mouse over RSIGuard, a minimised mode where RSIGuard appears only in the system icon tray, and an 'Always on Top' option.
  • An extensive Settings dialog allows you to go beyond the Setup Wizard and extensively tune RSIGuard to your needs, such as the type of work you do most commonly, or special ergonomic keyboards you use. Hotkeys, AutoClick parameters, ForgetMeNots hours-of-operation, BreakTimer, and countless other settings are available.
Other benefits include: BreakTimer and DataLogger recognise the difference between stress from a real mouse click and an AutoClick mouse click; RSIGuard recognises user behaviour and adds appropriate messages to ForgetMeNots; minimal use of a computer's resources by sharing information.
